Spring Brights

Minnesota winters have been so abnormally (and awkwardly) warm.
This week's highs have been in the forties, while last week's temps were at the single digits.

Dressing for this kind of weather has been especially weird, since expecting warm weather, then having to endure negative temps can be oh so painful.
Last week, I went on a shopping spree at J. Crew (and posted about it!) and got astonishingly adorable spring clothing, including these bright yellow skinnies and minty green sweater.
On a day when the weather was fluctuating and random, I wore this outfit.

Although this isn't your typical dress-for-any-weather outfit since it lacks layers, I thought it was perfect for the weather that we ended up having, which was sunny with a little bit of breeze.

{an amazing pair of sparkly oxfords from zara}

I love bright outfits especially during times when they're least expected, and with colorblocking being a hugeeeeee trend, I'm so excited to try out more bright, unusual color combinations!

Outfit:
sweater - j. crew
pants - j. crew
shoes - zara.com (sold out)

Have a great week!

Stay Warm In Style

It is that time of the year again... a foot of snow and below freezing weather. But it is also that time of the year when sweaters, scarfs and coats come back with style. This year, I am especially into chunky sweaters and big knit scarves. I think they are super adorable plus they keep me warm! Here is a simple outfit I had put together with pieces from a variety of places!

Sweater: Gap
  Scarf: Calvin Klein (TJ Maxx)
Jeans: Forever 21
Shoes: Lauren Conrad (Kohl's)
Bag: Thrifted

I think sometimes knit with knit could look good! As long as the colors or the patterns do not clash, it is a smart way to cozy up! Don't be afraid to go for the big scarves! I paired this outfit with some oxford flats, but some rider or laced boots would work as well!

Happy Winter! (and late Christmas) :-)
Stay Warm!

A Pearl of Wisdom

{Gap button-up shirt + Express leggings + Forever 21 necklace}

At school, we got a four day weekend,
and I had planned to use the time really wisely.
However on Wednesday, a really bad cold hit me,
and ever since then, I've been in bed unable to do anything.
After two days of sweatpants and chicken noodle soups,
I told myself that I needed to get my act together and get things done.
So I made an extra effort to look nice today.
After studying for the ACT (it's tomorrow!!)
for a couple hours at my usual place, Barnes&Noble,
I went out to the country club with my parents,
had a nice dinner and came home.

It was a pretty good day.

It's truly a miracle how much dressing
nicely has an affect on your mood.
People have the tendency of wearing
sweats or looking crappy whenever they feel down,
but I've found that giving even the smallest "oomph",
like wearing red lipstick or dressing up nicely, to your look can help you feel better.

ps. This whole outfit is $20! (shirt- $7, pants- $11, necklace- $2)

Happy weekend!

OOTD: Laid-back Stripes and Leather

YAY! Outfit of the day time!

I actually wore this outfit to school on Friday, but I wore it again today.... (only for a couple of hours).

Our school has a no hat policy but if I were to wear this elsewhere I would probably pair the outfit with a beanie.

So,
Cardigan's from Forever 21
Tank top was from Forever21  as well...
and the Necklace too...
and the beanie (see a trend here?)
Nine West Shoes from Herbergers
and leggings are old, can't remember.

I love this outfit because it is comfy, yet it shows off my style. I LOVE laced boots and striped cardigans so it was a no-brainer pairing the black leather boots with the maroon and navy striped cardigan. You can pair it up with jeans if you are not comfortable wearing leggings this way. It was also inexpensive; the cardigan was $15 and the shoes were $30 (originally $100!)

Enjoy Fall!
